C&M goes GREEN for our planet

CM_green.gifC&M Corporation, a worldwide manufacturer of cable and cable assemblies, is conscious of the status our world is in today.

Toxic byproducts are created from many materials at manufacturing corporations all over the world. These materials leak into our ground water, burn into the air we breathe and provide noxious fumes. These dangers pose threats to all of our wildlife, humanity, and the living plants and organisms all around us.

C&M recycles a lot of our materials. Any wire remnants, obsolete or non-conforming materials are given to a local scrap recycler and is put into a molting furnace where the material will eventually be reused. A very minimal amount of materials used at C&M goes into a landfill. We also recycle materials such as PVC that is later used by companies that make plastic storage bins and even parts for car interiors. C&M is going to be adopting a new on-site recycling program where we reuse FEP and mix it with new FEP as a blend. Any scrap copper that is not used is smelted, the plastic taken off and recycled or reused. C&M Corporation uses RoHS compliant materials. Lead was once a substance that was used in a lot of products. We were able to reformulate compounds and concentrates to eliminate the use of lead. We also bought different connectors that comply with RoHS. C&M substituted its old hazardous materials with environmentally safe materials.

More than 450,000,000 new pallets are made each year in the United States. Within our company, C&M promotes recycling of our pallets used in shipping and transporting products. When we use regular wood pallets, we recycle them. However, we also buy recycled chipboard pallets that are cheaper and reusable. Our maintenance team also uses fibrous recycled absorbers to clean up any oil spills. In the offices, we also recycle all of our paper. We also recycle all of our fluorescent bulbs used in our building. C&M is currently working on a project to replace our motors and drives on our extruders to energy saving upgrades.

In order to protect any further damage done to our planet, we must all become stewards of our environment by keeping it clean and healthy. C&M and other large manufacturers should be no exception to this rule. We have adopted the practice of complying with RoHS initiatives that restricts the use of hazardous materials such as heavy metals including lead, flame retardant materials and other carcinogenic materials. Every little bit helps and you can, too!
